LENSA KONTAK dapat menyebabkan KEBUTAAN!

Dari beberapa sumber yang saya dapatkan, dalam pemakaian lensa kontak yang berlebihan dalam waktu pemakaian bisa mengakibatkan kebutaan. Para ahli sudah mendapatkan banyak sekali kasus yang sama dalam hal ini...disarankan untuk para pemakai lensa kontak untuk tidak memakainya dalam waktu yang lama dan kalau bisa memakai yang satu kali pakai langsung buang.

Ini beberapa informasi tentang lensa kontak (negatif):

-Lensa kontak yang terlalu menempel terlalu erat dapat menyebabkan mata kekurangan oksigen. Dan jika hal ini tidak segera diatasi, kemungkinan besar akan mengalami kerusakan pembuluh darah sehingga memperburuk penglihatan.

Hal tersebut diakui oleh Melanie Pickett, department of clinical ophthalmology di Indiana University. Pickett juga mengatakan penggunaan lensa juga bisa memberikan dampak terburuknya, yaitu hilangnya kemampuan melihat dalam waktu 24 jam setelah pemakaian.

-Mata membutuhkan oksigen agar bisa bekerja dengan baik. Tak hanya menyebabkan mata kering, kekurangan oksigen juga bisa menyebabkan kornea bengkak dan penglihatan terganggu.

Kekurangan oksigen pada mata rentan terjadi pada pengguna lensa kontak. Apalagi, banyak pemakai lensa kontak yang tak menaati aturan pakai.

-“Sebanyak sembilan dari 10 pemakai lensa kontak memakainya lebih 10 jam sehari. Hal itu bisa menyebabkan timbulnya gejala-gejala kekurangan oksigen pada mata,” kata Country Head Indonesia CIBA Vision, Danny Widodo, dalam talkshow ‘Oksogen, Lensa Kontak, dan Kesehatan Mataku’ di Restoran Bebek Bengil,

-Dokter spesialis mata dari Departemen Mata Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Indonesia, Tri Rahayu, mengatakan, gejala kekurangan oksigen pada mata umumnya ditandai dengan penglihatan yang tidak nyaman. Pada pemakai lensa kontak, biasanya ditandai dengan mata gatal, merah, berair, dan penglihatan terganggu.

“Ini ciri mata kering akibat kekurangan oksigen. Jangan dikira banyak berurai air mata berarti Anda sudah cukup mendapatkan oksigen. Jika terus-menerus dibiarkan dalam kondisi akut kekurangan oksigen, bisa menyebabkan kornea luka dan menimbulkan kebutaan,” katanya.

Selain itu, rendahnya oksigen pada mata bisa memicu tumbuhnya bakteri dalam mata sehingga lebih mudah menempel pada lensa kontak yang pada akhirnya menyebabkan mata kering teriritasi.

“Untuk itu, bagi Anda pengguna lensa kontak perlu diingat bahwa penggunaannya tidak boleh lebih dari 10 jam, hanya boleh dipakai pada siang hari dan jangan pernah menggunakannya saat tidur,” katanya.

Kekurangan oksigen pada mata juga rentan terjadi pada mereka yang sering berlama-lama di depan komputer, dan di ruang ber AC. Juga mereka yang melakukan aktivitas dengan lingkungan terpapar asap rokok.

“Jika dirasakan hal tak biasa pada mata jangan remehkan, karena ini bisa menjadi sinyal bahwa ada masalah serius pada mata Anda. Segera pergi ke dokter untuk mengecek kesehatan mata Anda,”.

Menurut Dr. H. Dwight Cavanagh, seorang profesor ahli mata dari Southwestern Medical Center, Amerika Serikat dalam tulisannya “Eye and Contact Lens” pada 2003, mengungkapkan sebanyak 2.500 pengguna lensa kontak mengalami “corneal ulcers”. Hal itu terjadi pada pengguna yang menggunakan lensa kontak setiap hari.

Corneal ulcer yaitu kondisi dimana terdapat luka terbuka pada kornea. Hal ini sering disebabkan oleh infeksi dan luka kecil atau goresan yang bisa terjadi akibat penggunaan lensa kontak yang kurang hati-hati.

Gejala yang timbul biasanya produksi air mata yang meningkat, sensitif terhadap cahaya, pandangan menjadi kabur, gatal dan nyeri. Jika gejala tersebut dibiarkan dan tidak dilakukan perawatan intensif bisa memicu terjadinya kebutaan.
